ScoutIt exists to show you fair prices, not to trade in your data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we will never do, in plain language.
What we collect
- Captures you submit. When you scan, photograph, share, or ask ScoutIt to listen for a product, the image, barcode, or short audio clip you captured is sent to our service to identify the product. Captures are used to answer your request and to improve recognition quality.
- An anonymous device identifier. ScoutIt works without an account. A random identifier created on your device keeps your saved items together. It is not your name, email, phone number, or advertising ID.
- Product and click events. We record which products were looked up and which store links were opened, tied to the anonymous identifier. This is how we measure whether ScoutIt is useful and how affiliate commissions are attributed.
What we do not collect
- No account, name, email address, or password is required to use ScoutIt.
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not read your photo library; only the capture you choose to submit is sent.
- The microphone is used only while you are actively capturing by sound. ScoutIt never listens in the background.
What we will never do
- We never sell your personal information.
- We never share individual activity with retailers or brands. Any insights we may offer partners are aggregated and cannot identify you or your device.
- We never rank offers based on what a retailer pays us.
Affiliate links
When you open a store link from ScoutIt, that retailer or its affiliate network (for example, the Amazon Associates Program) may credit the visit to ScoutIt and pay us a commission if you buy. The retailer's own privacy policy applies once you are in their app or on their site. Commissions never change the price you pay.
Service providers
We use trusted infrastructure providers to run our service, including cloud hosting and an AI service that helps identify products from captures. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Data retention and deletion
Captures and events are retained to operate and improve the service. To request deletion of the data tied to your device identifier, email support@getscoutit.com from the device in question and we will handle it promptly.
Children
ScoutIt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the current version will always live at this address with an updated effective date.
